Hickenlooper’s tab passes $80K

As reported yesterday by KDVR, legal representation for millionaire John Hickenlooper’s ethics investigation has cost Colorado taxpayers $80,000 — the majority of which is going to pay for his $525/hour attorney Mark Grueskin. We can think of several things the state legislature could do with $80K.

The Denver Post revealed last year that the funds being used to pay for Grueskin were approved by Hickenlooper before he left the Governor’s office from a federal post-9/11 fund meant to be used for essential services. Reporting on the ethics investigation uncovered where the funds are coming from, but it’s not the first time he had misused them.

Hickenlooper has so far avoided questions about his ethics investigation, while telling the press they should be “protecting” him.
