FACT CHECK: Hickenlooper Held In Contempt

In a June 16, 2020 televised debate, John Hickenlooper claimed that “the moment we saw [the Independent Ethics Commission] subpoena was upheld, we came in the next day…”

That’s far from true. In fact, when Hickenlooper’s lawyer was finally able to contact the former governor they tried to push his testimony two weeks later, and Colorado’s Attorney General had to get involved to uphold the subpoena.

It’s a blatant law, and Coloradans can see right through it.

At the end of the video, Hickenlooper also seems confused about which charges he was found in violation of Colorado’s ethics laws…

“They did find me in violation of two issues. One was driving…flying…sorry.”
